Let Them Be Little

... because they grow so very fast

This past Friday my oldest son graduated from high school.

How can this be?

Josh was three the first time I met him and has been a piece of my heart ever since.  His dad and I dated for several years and we grew closer as a unit of three until we became a family in 2001.

Josh was in 1st grade when I became step-Mom.

He was 8 when he became a brother
(and he became a brother again and again in 2005 and 2010).

He started his freshman year in high school while his dad was in Iraq.

Sometimes I want moments of my day, week, month to go fast and then I remember how fast the years zoom by.  I get frustrated with the toddler crying, the 1st grader fussing or the 3rd grader whining.   Then I remember, Josh was there at one point in his life.  It didn't last forever.  One bad moment in a sea of happy moments is nothing to get hung-up on.
Josh, you have shaped me as a mother in intangible ways.

To all the moms & dads of little ones, I will leave you with this thought, song, video:

"Turn around and it is time to let them go"...

PS: We laugh.  We were the young parents at 38 years old at graduation this past Friday.  We will be the old wise parents at 55 years old when The Duke graduates in 2029.  Ah perspective.  This family is full of it! :)
