Sermon Notes: My Rock
As the young and vibrant woman of God led us into a time of worship this morning she asked, “Who is God to you?” He can be so many things at so many times but what resonated in my head was “He’s my Rock.” Because as beautiful as a sandy beach is, I can’t ground myself on thousands of pieces of shifty sand, thousands of things pulling and pushing me this way and that. However, that Rock; That Rock keeps me grounded. It keeps me grounded in the midst of turmoil: relationship troubles, financial problems, teenage angst, childhood rebellion, infant tantrums, tumultuous emotions. It doesn’t matter what is happening around me when I stand solidly on…

Sermon Notes: The Soldier’s Psalm
Psalm 91 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at…

Easter Sunday Reflections: Promise and Strength
Easter, a beautiful day of Bonnets, Baskets and yummy chocolate-Bunnies. But first and foremost it is a day of promise. A promise fulfilled, a promise for today, and a promise to come. “Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow!”Where do you find your strength? It is easy to lose heart when we don’t remember the promises of God. Today at church our pastor reminded us of some wonderful verses to hold on tight to. I hope they can help you:Are you… TroubledPsalm 9:9 – The Lord is a refugeIsaiah 43: 1-2 “I have called you by name; you are mine”DiscouragedJoshua 1:9 – He will be with you where ever you goPsalm 27:14 – “Be brave and…

Sermon Notes: We are Equipped
Many years ago (back in high school) I read a book This Present Darkness by Frank E. Peretti. I was never a big reader but this book captivated me, scared me, reminded me of the Protection that surrounds me. I can distinctly remember going into my family room while in the midst of this book one late night, turning on my parents’ new CD player, finding my dad’s good head-set and blasting the song, “Ashton” by Michael W. Smith…. (ok, maybe there is a reason I’m a little deaf. But I digress.) Ashton is also the name of the town that This Present Darkness takes place in. A town where…

That Still Small Voice
This morning got off to a late start. Hubs and I began to awaken at about 8:45am with Baby Boy nestled comfortably between us. (The Rubber Band Effect) We needed to be out the door for church at 9:00am. Didn’t look like that would happen. So we decided we would hit the 11:15am church service, instead of arriving frantically late at the 9:30am service. Since 11:15 isn’t our usual church service we decided to let the kids sit with us, instead of going to Sunday School with a different group of kids than usual. They enjoyed the sounds of the band, but five-year old *C* was fidgeting from the get-go.…

Who is an advocate for your family?
Yesterday after church we headed to the zoo for the afternoon. As a family of six… sometimes we are our own little zoo, or at least circus… but I was really craving some family time. Away from the TV; Away from the video games; Away from the hustle and bustle of home life. We had a blast! We did the Rainforest first, completely indoors and a great place to see toads, snakes, bats, fishing cats, orangutans and much much more. We had such a good time that after touring the whole building we ventured over to the outdoor part. It was cold, below freezing, in fact, but we had jackets,…

Suffering
We are military-wives. We know suffering. Some of us worse then others. Some have lost husbands to war. Some have lost their soul mates to PTSD. Some have lost any sense of closure when something happens ‘back home’ and unable to go to the ones that need them in their hour of need. Other struggles aren’t as bad. But still leave us hurting and feeling miserable. Saying goodbye to our spouse for a year deployment. Saying goodbye to the best of friends as we move across the country, the world. Watching our children struggle with depression because of their “Military Brat” lifestyle. All suffer. Today at church our sermon was…

Clumping
It is Sunday. I got up this morning in time to say good-bye to hubs. I got dressed. Sipped some coffee. Made breakfast for the boys. Nursed the baby. Then we headed out the door! Time for church. One of my favorite activities of the week. Today was my first time putting Baby *L* in the nursery. He will be 5-months old this week. Wow how time flies! So there we are standing in the church nursery entry. We checked in. I gave them the rundown (including a bottle that I admitted was more for my own humor as he refuses to take one). They gave me my pager. I…
