My Very Exciting, Sorta Scary, Big Move
So you have orders. Your military-family is once again PCSing. The children have been told and there is excitement, worry, dare I even say some anger? A mixed ball of emotion from your grade-school children. Emotions they can’t quite vocalize. Feelings that are all jumbled up inside. Tension that you can see in their eyes, their shoulders, down to their toes. I know. I have been that child. I recently reached out to Lori Woodring, Ph.D., when I read she put together a workbook for children ages five to eleven titled, “My Very Exciting, Sorta Scary, Big Move“. (Pretty darn perfect title if I do say so myself.) Wow, there…

Universities that Support our Veterans
I read a recent article about two universities that ‘get it’. Rutgers University and the University of Arizona; The Lumina Foundation highlighted them in their recent magazine, you can read more here: Lumina Foundation Features Two Colleges for Their Work Serving Student Veterans; America Needs More Vets with Degrees to Meet Attainment Needs Just think, only three years ago Rutgers didn’t have any type of Veterans Program and now they are receiving national recognition. It goes to show you don’t have to jump through hoops to make it happen you just need to make a plan and stick to it! I love support like this for our Veterans and I certainly…

“Eat. Live. Give.” Five Point Snacks is “Giving Back” to the Military Community.
Some folks just “get it”. They understand that the military community gives and sacrifices a lot to protect this country and its citizens. When you find folks like that you just want to give them a big hug or at least say thank you! MilitaryAvenue’s Col K had a great discussion with one of those individuals yesterday! Alan Blum, is the founder of Five Point Snacks and he talked about their Airmen Popcorn, GI Crunches, Sailor Knots and other snacks and why they were giving 5 cents for each bag sold to one of our favorite military support organizations, the Bob Woodruff Foundation. He described a “sense of need for…

The Marines Invaded Cleveland
and the people loved them. The people of Cleveland were in for a treat this past week. It was Marine Week! 800 Marines came to town to give the people of northeast Ohio a small taste of “OORAH!” My boys climbed inside an amphibious assault vehicle. They tried on a helmet. They felt the weight of a vest. They climbed up onto the gunner’s turret and sat in the driver’s seat as well. They were amazed that this “tank” could go on land and in water. We watched the Marine Corp Band based out of Quantico perform right outside of Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians We sang along to some great music, tapped our foot to the beat and enjoyed the men in uniform behind…
