The Joy of Giving: Memorial Day Parade

    May 28, 2013 /

This weekend I heard TAPS.  It had been a few months since I last heard it and I had no idea the emotion would flow.  (TAPS: Wordless-Wednesday)  But Memorial Day is a day to celebrate the memory of our war veterans and that we did! Getting ready to march in our Community Parade The joy of givingOur decorated ‘Float’ for the parade Two of my boys and their own hero, their dad    The Kocsis-crew marched (or strolled) in a parade, showed the boys the joy of giving over receiving (you can’t catch candy in a parade if you are the one throwing it), talked about what Memorial Day is really about with the kids, had…

    Talking Turkey (leftovers) Tasty Tuesday

    November 21, 2011 /

A crowd fills the house at Thanksgiving each year.  Chairs are mixed and matched to heights of a child’s lap.  Tables are added domino style… fitting this end, turning a corner with several tablecloths draped over them.  My table is a center point of the Thanksgiving action for me.  For me.  Now, for more than half of us it is the Macy’s Day parade which spills into football.   Hors d’oeuvres  fill the gap from the yeasty breakfast rolls or bowls holding fruited steamy oatmeal to dinner.  A steady aroma of turkey feeds an appetite that nothing else can satisfy.  Our menu has turkey highlighting the table at 2 P.M. and…

    What is Veterans Day?

    October 6, 2011 /

Welcome in autumn.  Our country steps up to elections.  Our view of the land flashes from green to fading oranges and yellows.  Where parks and buildings raise flag poles we see our nations pride: the American flag flies!  It is more colorful; hangs more prominent; and displays strength on Veterans Day.  Each November 11 America looks to the past, the present and is thankful for the future with eyes on our servicemen and women.   This year 11/11/11 illustrates squadrons standing next to each other… the date is like a parade marching across a page; a phalanx of individual ‘ones’ standing side by side and displaying numerical meaning to the date.November…

Memorial Day Weekend Revisited: A Story in Pictures

    May 31, 2011 /

Wow! What a fantastic weekend. We had dinner with neighbors, a barbecue with friends, went to another party with more neighbors and then Memorial Day we marched in a parade, visited a few cemeteries and then had lunch at the VFW. No, the garden didn’t get ’tilled as planned after the major thunderstorm on Saturday night; yes, the air-condition did get turned on Monday night after reaching 90 degrees that day; and yes, the Kocsis Crew needs to officially restock the band-aid box after my 6 year old fell multiple times on his knees. But all in all it was a weekend to be remembered. Neighbors! We are so blessed…

Memorial Day Parade 2010 a Middleville Moment

    May 31, 2010 /

I could not be prouder! I love my country! I love my little town! I LOVE my family. Memorial Day brought the best of the best together and our celebration taught this patriot lady a new lesson on smiling. It’s a good thing to do. It is even better to look around and see others smiling and bursting with pride.I love that we commemorate and recognize the dedication, camaraderie and sacrifice of our God protected military. Many were not allowed to see the end of conflicts, many were not brought home, that does not mean they were and are not protected. In God We Trust hangs on our hearts. The…

    Summer Time!

    May 28, 2009 /

According to the calendar it may not technically be Summer yet. But according to the laughter, the running, the smiles we are just beginning one of my favorite seasons! So get outside. Bring the camera. Capture the moments & be sure to share them with friends and families in far-away places! Take in the season, set-up a pool (even 30-something-year-olds can enjoy an inflatable pool!), take a bike ride, have a bbq with neighbors, attend a parade, play with sidewalk chalk, go to a baseball game, pour yourself a tall glass of iced-tea. This is the season of smiles. – Leanne from MilitaryAvenue.com byLeanneonThursday, May 28, 2009Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare…

What a weekend! I am thrilled to have Hubs home from his year long deployment to the sand-box for so many reasons. This weekend was a quick reminder of one of those reasons: multiple-schedules. There were times over this last year where I simply had to say “I can’t do it” because it would have required splitting my body into two and being at four places at once. It was frustrating because when my children are active they are happy. When they are happy I am happy. But there were times we just couldn’t do it all PERIOD. (And yet we were still happy, well apart from the fact that…

New Discoveries and Your Military Benefits!

    May 27, 2008 /

Memorial Day weekend was wonderful! We had beautiful weather and great family get-togethers; and watched the Memorial Day parade in our small town with a niece proudly marching in the high school band! What fun. During a late walk on Memorial Day after all the festivities Deb and I discovered a couple of beautiful Dogwood Trees in our woods that we had not seen before. They were huge and we are still wondering how we missed them for the last 6 spring/summers!?? Maybe the cooler spring allowed more blossoms and/or the sun angle was right in the evening? But the blossoms jumped out of the new green vegetation and they…

    Freedoms on this Memorial Day

    May 26, 2008 /

It is Memorial Day! I got up at the “crack of dawn”… (ok, it was 7:30am but I am a night owl) so that I could get breakfast going, get the troops dressed, and head down to the local Memorial Day parade which started at 9am. The boys brought their bags to grab the candy. I brought my camera to grab the photos. It hasn’t been a very well attended parade in the past (or today for that matter) but those of us that are there are excited to be there. The boys enjoy the upfront view of the high school marching band, the larger then life fire-trucks and the…

    Election Time

    February 5, 2008 /

Today is Super Tuesday, Mardi Gras, and the ticker tape parade for the Giants in NYC. It is a dream world for the news agencies. The whole country is active and is hitting the streets! The Giants parade will have fanatic fans out in force. Their team came from behind and did it… They won! Those few seconds at the end of the game changed the outcome of the season. The crowd at the stadium paid premium price to be there and be part of the action. They got to sound their approval of plays, calls and penalties. They were neatly squeezed together in a small space to cheer and…
