Wrapping up Month Of The Military Child: Brat Town Bugle
Today is the last day of Month of the Military Child; but isn’t it something we should celebrate all year long? We highlighted some great resources throughout April on our Facebook page. We shared Tips on Relocation, YMCA’s Operation Kid Comfort Program, and most importantly a reminder that YOU are the ultimate resource for your military child PLUS so much more. (Scroll through Facebook.com/MilitaryAvenue to see them all.) One more resource I want to share is Operation We Are Here‘s Brat Town Bugle ™. The Brat Town Bugle is a wonderful way for your child, children, whole family to showcase what is happening at home. It could be a monthly project to…

Medicine in Iraq in 2010 and Beyond – DoD Roundtable
Imagine trying to find a doctor or nurse in a country where 90% of the doctors fled after multiple devastating wars, an insurgency with criminal elements kidnapping physicians for ransom and a medical community that spent 35 years locked in a closet away from the rest of the world’s medical system by the dictatorial government under Saddam Hussein! The Iraq medical community has a long ways to go before recovering to its previous expertise! At one time this country’s medicine was the envy of the region! Now they are re-building with American assistance! We spoke with Dr. Adel Hanson, linguist/medical advisor, USF-I Health Affairs, Iraq Training and Advisory Mission (ITAM);…

Have you read the latest? MilitaryAvenue and the American Forces Press Service
We have been published: “New Social Media Platform Helps Military Members With Relocation“ Jamie Findlater at the Defense Media Activity has been a wonderful advocate for MilitaryAvenue.com and I must say she put together an excellent article, once again, about what MilitaryAvenue is doing for the military-families out there! To Jamie – a HUGE thank you! We work very hard for the military families out there and it is encouraging to be recognized. Take a moment to read about ‘Answers’ (http://www.defenselink.mil/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=52160), a very exciting piece of MilitaryAvenue. Then get out there: ask some questions, leave some answers, and connect with other military-families. You won’t be sorry! – Leanne from MilitaryAvenue.combyLeanneonWednesday,…

What Fun!
As a military family we found ourselves in many different parts of the world! Adapting to the environment we were in was always a challenge we took on with an almost eager glee! What can we do here that we couldn’t in the last place? We went “spranging” in Iceland, rode the transcontinental railroad in Panama and went to a secluded beach after a walk through the jungle, snow skied in New Mexico, hiked Mt Rainier in Washington, rode the surf in Florida, built an igloo in Illinois during a major blizzard and a host of other family events that were just fun and helped us enjoy the transitions in…

A New Way to Connect
I haven’t contributed to the “Letters to You” blog before today, but I’m excited to do so! I joined the MilitaryAvenue team in early 2008 and it has been fun to jump into a new and exciting project. If you are reading this blog, you are probably familiar enough with the Internet to have at least heard of Facebook. It has gained some popularity and success over the past couple of years – roughly 65 million users with an average of 250,000 new users signing up each day! That’s exciting for the people at Facebook, but what did it mean for us at MilitaryAvenue? In mid 2007, Facebook created the…
