One Spiffy WWII Veteran Filled My World With Wonder

    February 12, 2013 /

There are no perfect words to say to tell you how my father in law, James Kissinger shaped, shimmied, and added sparkle to the life of his family. Not a perfect word… but there is a one that rings in my memory. When he liked an idea, or a new car, or saw that a grandchild made him a homemade card… he would pronounce it Spiffy: meaning, cool, creative, worthy of their talent or just something that put a twinkle in his eye. Your legacy Dad is indeed Spiffy.  To us you were and always will be: Salt of the EarthSenior statesman, I see the gleam in my father in…

Afghanistan: “Things are Good, not Great”. DoD Blogger Roundtable

    April 24, 2012 /

He is what we would call a straight shooter!  Maj. Gen. John A. Toolan, Jr., U.S. Marine Corps, met with the DoD Blogger Roundtable to discuss Afghanistan after returning from a year in command of U.S. Marines and allied forces in the Helmand and Nimroz provinces of Afghanistan. He provided a sobering but positive perspective of the situation next to the borders of Pakistan and Iran and  the general was ready to share his thoughts on the current events in Afghanistan with the roundtable bloggers. Praying for My Children

    March 4, 2012 /

Praying for our children, it is one of the most important things that I feel a mother can do for their sons and daughters.    Sometimes though I’m at a loss of words, a jumble of thought, even a perceived lack of time.  However, I ran across this printable 31 Biblical Virtues to Pray for Your Children that has added new life to my prayer life. Source: keepingitpersonal.com via Leanne on PinterestI printed off this very nicely done list of biblically based virtues which we want our children to grow into and foster.  Then I placed it on my frig right above our water dispenser at eye level.  31 Virtues, 31 Days in the month, heaven…

    November 28, 2011 /

Popsicle Sleds: simple fun for a young one to put together.  Ideas for children to use to create a memory that mark each year on the tree are great to catalog.  This sheet of paper was tucked in an ornament bin, ready to share or use with some tree trimming youngsters!Kids and Christmas… they just go together! Vision a 20 20 Deal and Bright Hope for Tomorrow

    August 2, 2011 /

Vision with age is supposed to diminish.  Yet, life hones, shapes and directs vision by allowing light in, fracturing those simple rays.  Prisms are laid out complete with memories of faces, places, smells and sounds. Vision for the future crescendos with strength of the past, desires of present but can be walled in by anxieties unseen.  Vision takes ‘challenge’ and uses it like a battering ramp against the walls of prejudice, loneliness, touches of arthritis and other cob webs! Life requires so much work to be able to see.  On our own we can be spooked by the moonlight and blinded by the sun. Grasshoppers can still be giants.  That…

    Where’s Your Motivation?

    July 30, 2011 /

Meet *C*.  He is my tender hearted, full of hugs, rough and tumble boy!  He worried me when he was a baby.  He couldn’t latch on or get anything from a bottle.  I met with a lactation consultant and I ended up pumping breast milk and then squirting it into his mouth through a tiny tube while he was ‘latched on’.  Now, he is the biggest of all my boys on the growth charts. He didn’t start talking till way after the milestone “should have” been met.  We were instructed to see a speech-therapist who met with us, made note in his records and said in a couple years he may…

    The Man-Bag

    July 25, 2011 /

My son has a man-bag. This sends me into fits of hysterics every time I think about it. It all started out with a dad-and-son trip to Sports Clips.  You see, I am frugal.  We do our best to save around here where we can, when we can.  This way I can enjoy some of the ‘finer things in life’ with less guilt. (Like fulfilling my need to close the kitchen and eat out once in awhile.)  As my eight-year old starts to care more and more about ‘style’ my handy-dandy clippers are failing him.  (I’m sure it has everything to do with the clippers and nothing to do with my ability.  Just…

    Mom Means Business

    July 20, 2011 /

My boys are a hurricane. A tornado. A path of destruction.  We are working hard at starting good habits, staying organized, picking up when they are done playing, not waiting till Mom blows her top tells them to.  I have found if I help organize the toys in their room that it only gets me very frustrated and my ideas fall apart in less then a couple of days.  So now they are left to their own vices. I sent them to clean their room the other day, and told them anything left on their floor when they were done was going into the garbage.  Sure enough they came down 30 minutes later declaring they…
