Month of the Military Child – How Do You Influence Your Military Child/Grandchild?
I had a lesson taught by a small loving act during this Month of the Military Child. A package arrived in the mail from @MilAve_Leanne and when I opened it, I was humbled by what I saw. The art work was a future Monet or Picasso and the words were clearly a Robert Ludlum or Tom Clancy to be. “I will catch a fast leprechaun on a St Patricks Day. My grandpa and I will fly a fast jet. We will swoop it up with a net. The leprechaun will shout Woo hoo. Grandpa. the leprechaun I will enjoy the ride.” A school project during the St Patrick’s Day timeframe…

The Jolly Green Giant Arrives at the Air Force Museum
The Jolly Green Giant Arrives! This week has been hectic! We traveled to see family for a Christmas gathering and then headed south to Wright Patterson AFB for a special event on Wednesday recognizing the Airmen who flew the HH-3 Jolly Green Giant! This aircraft flew rescue missions for four decades! The Air Force dedicated an aircraft, tail number 709, at the National Museum of the US Air Force at Wright Patterson AFB but what I saw were the people that cared for the old bird! As I looked around the audience the men and women were absolutely enthralled with the aircraft and as they listened to the guest speakers,…

600 Museums offering free admission for our military!
“600 Museums offering Free Admission for Active Duty and their families” … That’s a lot of museums! I love museums… children’s museums, art museums, science museums, even a stroll through The Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. Free Admission?! I have been spoiled by the Washington DC Smithsonian Museums in the past which are all free… but some museums are $10 to $15 per person! Free is nice! This summer, more than 600 museums in all 50 states are offering free admission to active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day, May 31, 2010, through Labor Day, September 6, 2010 to show their appreciation for those who are…

The National Museum of the United States Air Force
This weekend we had a great time visiting the USAF Museum at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton OH! We traveled from sunny Michigan to Ohio and picked up three grandsons enroute for a stay in Dayton on Saturday night and a visit to the museum on Sunday morning! The kids had a great time asking questions, looking at airplanes and helicopters and sitting in the cockpits as well! I had a chance to share my enthusiasm about flying with them and they learned a bit about their heritage too as I was able them aircraft I had flown! The museum staff was friendly, helpful and it is open from 9…

It Was a Great Day to Fly
This picture may not look like I am flying but I think deep down in my brain I thought I was! Its kind of hard to not think about flying after being in the cockpit for 25 of my 30 years on active duty. I was blessed with many great opportunities to learn new aircraft, visit new places and fly with the best crews and personnel in the aviation business! They were great! I flew helicopters (UH-1N) first; went to fixed wing (T-38 instructor); back to helos (UH-1H and N; HH-3 and HH-60) and ended my career flying C-141s and C-17s. I have seen sunrises from 35,000 feet, sunsets over…

Let Freedom Ring
It was Monday late-morning and we were waiting for the call from Hubby to say we could come out to the Armory and spend some time with him. My mother-in-law had dropped him off that morning as she, my father-in-law and our 14 year old headed home. The 5 year-old, 3-year old and I had enough PBS for the morning and were about ready to start pulling our hair out. We had walked the halls of this late 1950s hotel. We had strolled outside to the closed-pool that was in much need of maintenance. We had lingered in the lobby with the cool ‘frog fountain’ that I was rather unimpressed…
