Tasty Tuesday: Steak Marinade
There is something extra delicious about a steak fresh off of the grill. If that steak has been marinated for a couple of hours in a favorite dressing, mouths begin to water with the sounds of the steak sizzling on the grill. Mustard Beef Marinade 1/3 c of Olive Oil1/2 c of soy sauce2 T of lemon juice1 T of Worcestershire Sauce (a small tangent – I love that word! Every time I say it I have to let it roll off my tongue thinking about a succulent piece of steak melting in my mouth.)1/2 T of mustard powder from your spice rack or 1 T of mustard from your frig1 garlic clove, pressed Mix all ingredients in a…

Tasty Tuesday: Asparagus & Bacon Bundles
There are some foods I love. Bacon happens to be at the top of the list. Bacon makes /anything/ taste better I’m pretty convinced. (Ice cream, also at the top of that favorite list, might be the exception while I think about it.) Another favorite … crispy, fresh asparagus. I LOVE asparagus but I’m picky about it. I don’t like cold asparagus it has to be fresh off the grill, the range or the broiler. I don’t like limp asparagus either. None of the frozen, boiled stuff for me, like Mom always served at Thanksgiving, ergo I was quite convinced till recently that I hated it. Now that fresh asparagus is…

What a great week!
A dinner at one of my new favorite restaurants with the love of my life; a newly stained deck; a fresh coat of oil on my deck table; a cleaned out garage, with a year’s worth of dirt, power-washed out back to its natural habitat; barbecued shish-kebobs with grilled asparagus and fresh bread with dipping sauce, (Wow, a meal with no “ICK… I’m not eating this”); evening walks; some wonderful alone-time with hubs; and wine… a few bottles of wine over the course of the week. It has been a great week! First of all MAJOR PROPS to my mom and dad for hosting the annual Camp Grandpa! The inaugural…

Tasty Tuesday: Shrimp Scampi Improvised
My boys have a favorite meal; Shrimp Scampi! Only trouble is Hubs HATES shrimp. SO we don’t do the shrimp ‘thing’ when he is home. However, he was in the field the past two weeks and so when I was meal planning it was easy enough to add the favorite meal to the menu! The morning of the planned-meal came along and I made sure we had a bag of shrimp in the freezer … However, what I did NOT account for was the fact that we had opened the bag before and there were about 15 shrimp left. (15 divided by 3 … not nearly enough for my boys.)…

Tasty Tuesday: Rhubarb / Strawberry Crunch Reduced Sugar
It is getting to be close to Farmer’s Market time, a.k.a. rhubarb time. I am really believe that the snows are behind us. My proof of this is 1 May when the markets open. One can find asparagus and rhubarb. This is living. Both have long stalks that stick up out of the ground that announce “Hey! I made it! Your turn!” So, taking my turn with the rhubarb, I like to pair it with strawberries – totally sweet and sour. And I like my rhubarb to taste a tad sour… not overly sugared. Rhubarb / Strawberry Crunch welcomes the taste buds to do a spring dance right there in…

Broiled Asparagus
I just read that asparagus is the new in vegetable. One that is a subject of definite good for you food type articles. That is fine with me, as I love the stuff. Dale and I have planted more roots and have gotten diddly out of them… yet have them growing wild here and there. Obviously a lesson is hidden somewhere here that I am not getting. But what I do get is the beauty and crunch of this vegetable. In a restaurant when I see it as an extra side dish… I just have to have it, and have been rewarded with a great product each time. Broiled or grilled,…

Fish and Asparagus: A spring time specialty
The season of Lent is the harbinger of Spring… I guess some folks have the robin. I love the smells of hot cross buns in the bakery. I love seeing the pastels popping out in stores and crocus filled gardens. Even though it is snowing outside as I write, I know that it will not pile up to be 4 feet and stay around for an extra 3 weeks. Warm weather, gardens and walks are out there.I love cooking fish during Lent. This was never a tradition in my family growing up, but we did have it more often during lent because the grocers always had fresh varieties available, and…
