Help Your Child Feel Healthy!
The American Heart Association recommends that children and teenagers get at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day. My kindergartner’s teacher mentioned to me that *C* is the most in-tune and capable of learning right after some rigorous activity. She has witnessed first hand, in particular with him, how when he gets rid of pent up energy he is ready to sit down and stay on task. Occasionally, if all of the students are a bit hyper she has them do a few jumping jacks beside their desks. Then they sit back down and jump back into work. It goes to show how in-sync our bodies are. Even the brain craves motion, movement and…

Taking a Baseball Bat to Cancer
Sometimes life throws curve balls. I didn’t even know that I was up to bat! It was so hectic and now I see bases are loaded and I am NOT going to strike out, or walk or punt (wait… that’s the wrong sport!) See… I really didn’t know I was in the game. And then whoosh something flew at me and caught my breath.I think it was fear. But just like one pitch, it was thrown at me trying to get me off center, trying to get me to go after it, jerk away from it, recognize it and not ignore it. I did.Whoosh… next came uncertainty. How can I…

Summer Vacation!
Summer has begun in northern-Ohio; not according to the ‘official’ calendar but according to the School Calendar! What we plan on doing this summer? Summer Jobs! (A staple to my sanity) A week at ‘Camp Grandpa’ for *E* and *C* Hours and hours in our backyard pool. We bought our pool over Memorial Day weekend and the boys have used it EVERY DAY besides yesterday when the temperature outside didn’t get over 70. Oh we LOVE swimming and splashing! Dinners on the deck as a family Picnic-Lunches with neighbor-friends Trips to the Zoo. We love having Zoo Passes Evenings with friends; wine, appetizers and bbqs; oh and DESSERT! Yum! (I’m…

Spring Break Fun
I love the change in routine involved with Spring Break! We have enjoyed alarm clocks off, time outdoors, moments together and later bedtimes. Time with school-aged friends, time with neighbors, time with cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles. I had a great Easter weekend at home. We enjoyed Easter church-service as a family, followed by the annual Easter-Egg hunt at Hub’s Grandma’s house involving A LOT of plastic eggs and A LOT of kids. We spent a few days enjoying the warmer-then-usual Spring weather in our backyard, planting some flower seeds, friends over to play backyard-baseball and so much more! We packed up the car mid-week and headed to my folk’s house, about a five hour drive, but well worth the time!…

The Day I became a Mom
7 years ago today I became a mom to a beautiful blue-eyed, pink-skinned, 8 pound, 21 inches of love, baby boy. In the few days following his birth I would hold him amazed that this little baby was given to me to love, take care of, and to call my son. Then with a little bit of humor I often wondered when his mother was going to come get him. Could I possible be this little boy’s mother? Wow, I was a Mom. The emotion was conflicting and overwhelming. Yet my heart was OVER FLOWING with an amazing new love. He’s no longer 8 pounds. The eyes are more of…

The Thrill of Little League
We just finished up our inaugural year of Little League. As the mom of one of the best-players out there (ahem… I said I was a mom) I have to say how much fun T-Ball was! Everyone told me how boring it would be and how I’d be ready to gouge my eyes out after sitting through each and every game. But I could not disagree more. I’d bring my chair every week, sit on the sidelines with my water-bottle and watch & cheer as the kids came to life out there. 45 to 60 minutes of pure relaxation. Now I will admit, T-Ball in our community is not competitive.…

Love and Marriage
I am 100% in love. Hubs and I aren’t your ‘perfect’ couple. I get frustrated with him when he leaves the Sunday paper strewn across the kitchen counter. He would really prefer I DIDN’T leave my shoes all over the house. I’m sure any psychologist could pick our relationship apart. We have squabbles. YET, We don’t kick. We don’t scream. We just get past it and work through it. We love each other 100%, unabashedly. Our toughest ‘years’ of marriage were probably the first couple. We were in love but not quite synced. I did a lot more yelling and fussing then I needed to. He didn’t voice his opinions…

Summer Time Safety for the Military Family
Summer is really here and with it comes those outdoor activities we all love to participate in and enjoy to the maximum! Because of their youth and nature, I think military personnel and their families tend to do adventurous activities. The kind that keep you young and give you an exuberance for life! However, they also tend to be the type of activity that can lead to injury or even death in some instances! So, I’d like to share a few tips on how to avoid some of those injuries (not foolproof but they never are). Some of these are based on training I received on active duty and some…

Summer Time!
According to the calendar it may not technically be Summer yet. But according to the laughter, the running, the smiles we are just beginning one of my favorite seasons! So get outside. Bring the camera. Capture the moments & be sure to share them with friends and families in far-away places! Take in the season, set-up a pool (even 30-something-year-olds can enjoy an inflatable pool!), take a bike ride, have a bbq with neighbors, attend a parade, play with sidewalk chalk, go to a baseball game, pour yourself a tall glass of iced-tea. This is the season of smiles. – Leanne from MilitaryAvenue.com byLeanneonThursday, May 28, 2009Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare…
