The Gift of Guns & Gratitude
Yesterday I bought a gun. I guess that sentence has more weight then I intend, especially because it is a gift for my husband’s 40th birthday, coming up towards the end of the month. But *I* had to fill out all the paperwork, the gun is registered in my name and the clerk made it very clear it was mine. Yep, it’s mine. But here is my story. The conversation with the clerk started off a little rough, especially because my gun knowledge is about this much > . < Not much at all. I knew what kind he wanted and he had pointed some out in a flier so I brought…

Perfectly Sweet Healthy Birthday Snack
A very Happy Birthday to my middle-son today! 7 years old and I feel like he should be turning 3 or 4. How does time pass so quickly? Every child loves to bring in a sweet treat to school to celebrate their special day. Before Spring Break I sent in a note to his teacher asking if I could send in cupcakes, a sweet-tooth favorite for the birthday boy. The note that came home was a bit disappointing. “We would love a birthday treat, but please send in something healthy.” Humph… My thought, ‘Come on! It is a Birthday!’ But I polled Facebook friends for a healthy, yummy treat that would satisfy…

Happy Birthday, Kiddo
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11Dad and Josh: Makes me smile 18 years ago a boy was born. He would forever change my life, influencing the mother that I am today, yesterday and tomorrow. He’s a brother! (and he will be again and again)Joshua, Josh, Kiddo. What an amazing young-man he has come to be. A stellar student, a strong athlete, a friend to many, a rock in a sea of turmoil. To say I am a proud mom would be an understatement. I…

Happy Birthday, *E*
Sunday was my son’s 6th birthday. Wow, six years old! We had a wonderful day of celebrating but it has taken me TWO days to recuperate (hence, this “belated birthday”). I see so much of *E* in me. We are both quiet amongst new people but get us with friends and we’ll talk your ear off. We both crave friendship. We both like to know ‘the plan’. The unexpected can throw our whole day off. Surprises? Hate them! We savor knowing what is “in the works”. But he is not me. He is a rough and tumble boy. He can make a gun out of his finger, or legos or…

A Minute out of the Norm: Plant Some Seeds
It is still pretty cold here in the Midwest, the danger of frost certainly has not passed. In fact, I wouldn’t be totally surprised if we got more snow (aghast) between now and the end of the month. However, my boys and I have started our summer garden. Before I dive into the topic of our garden I have to share a ‘funny’ story about miscommunication. My husband was going birthday shopping with the boys last Saturday for me. I asked him while he was out to please pick out some seeds for our annual vegetable-garden. He won’t be around this year for our vegetable & herb garden so I…

Thriller
Soon I will celebrate the 24th anniversary of my 10th birthday. I know that is a strange way to say that yes, I am almost 34. But any military-brat can tell you the importance of that 10th birthday. Turning 10 meant independence, empowerment, growing-up; it was a big deal! It was the day I could get my Military ID Card! It was a yellow card with a hole and a chain that I could hang around my neck. It had an awkward picture of a pre-teen with a curly perm and loads of freckles. It said that I, yes I, had Exchange, MWR, and Commissary privileges. It wasn’t a driver’s…
