Tasty Tuesday with Sweet Potato Muffins
We went to the pumpkin patch with 2 of the grands today. Fun. Each ran and found their beauty. They surprised me in that they didn’t go for the big one… but each chose their favorite from the ones at the farthest end of the garden… as if the pursuit was the prize! With a little muscle help from Grandpa, the vine came loose, and the chilly orange orb was theirs! Since it is Tuesday, they wanted to perform in the kitchen, and pumpkin was on their minds. Muffins seemed the perfect treat for this chilly afternoon. We got out the ingredients, put on the aprons and set to work. One…

“Military Spouse Employment Summit”
One of my favorite topics to write about is how to help the military community with employment! The next level up is how to help military spouses with employment! They sacrifice much during each PCS for their military member’s career while frequently placing theirs on the back burner. In today’s economic environment it is even harder so MilitaryAvenue wants to provide resources for the military community in the form of blogs, contacts, articles and news information! So tune up your social media for this one to the Military Spouse Employment Summit being held in Fairfax Virginia on November 3rd and 4th! MilAve_Deborah talking to an Army spouse at an AWN…

A Gift of Your Time
This weekend’s 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks brought a lot of reminiscing for America and individuals. “We Will Never Forget … “ Where we were, why did this happen and how we responded as a nation. The images just flowed through my head of the towers burning in New York, the Threat Condition Delta on our military installations, locked and loaded automatic weapons at the installation entry points, a command post full of very determined airmen and the President reading to a young group of children. So many to remember … As we were enjoying our coffee and breakfast this morning, I pulled out our calendar with special…

The Grocery Bill
The grocery bill: One of the big chunks of our family budget and probably our largest ‘discretianary’ item in the list of many family expenses. How do you save? I enjoyed this article in the Times, “Millions of coupons: Military shoppers score savings on base“. It got me thinking about how we, you and me, can chunk down the amount we each spend on our weekly trips. It isn’t always about coupons but they sure can help! Clip, cut and organizeThe latest rave is coupons. I hear all about TLC’s Extreme Couponing, although I have to admit I’ve never watched it. Are you an ‘extreme-couponer’? My husband is the Sunday-morning newspaper coupon clipping addict. Every Sunday…

Tasty Tuesday Blackberry Scones
Blackberry Scones. Right there, I am drooling!Warm, wet and wonderful hot out of the oven; berries popping out the sides of blackberry scones. From start to finish, these are ready to eat within the hour using everyday shelf items: with the exception of those juicy berries. We have berries growing and thriving and multiplying like 60. Dale picks them, I clean them; we eat them. Simple! Today we had oatmeal with blackberries for breakfast, a 10 o’clock snack was a blackberry muffin from last night and lunch will be a garden fresh tossed salad topped with… Yep! Blackberries, plump purple and delicious. The scone idea is new. Neighbors are coming…

The Blackberry Patch
Beautiful Michigan Blackberries!I think He understands and hears my prayers while in the patch. This is a favorite time of the year for me! I enjoy spending time in our wild blackberry patch which is now at its peak! The blackberries were a gift that we found behind our woods the second year we arrived after that last PCS! It was number 18 move and we looked forward to being grounded for a bit and being close to family after 30 years of being “transients”. But … back to the berries! We purchased a house that was placed on a hill overlooking the nearby river valley and deep in a…

Feeding my Brain
Today my son, *C*, jumped on the bus in his PJs. He is heading to school to enjoy a delicious breakfast of Green Eggs and Ham. Dr Seuss week is wrapping up. I just love when education is fun. And Dr Seuss sure is a whole lot of fun. *C*, my energetic, imaginative, prince. He is my second-born and wants SO much to be like his big-brother *E*, two-years older. He gets frustrated when he can’t do what his 2nd grade brother does. And sometimes this brings him down. *E* is a top-notch reader. 2nd grade and reading at the 5th grade level according to quarterly computer-tests. Teacher conferences are…

Clumping
It is Sunday. I got up this morning in time to say good-bye to hubs. I got dressed. Sipped some coffee. Made breakfast for the boys. Nursed the baby. Then we headed out the door! Time for church. One of my favorite activities of the week. Today was my first time putting Baby *L* in the nursery. He will be 5-months old this week. Wow how time flies! So there we are standing in the church nursery entry. We checked in. I gave them the rundown (including a bottle that I admitted was more for my own humor as he refuses to take one). They gave me my pager. I…
