Memorial Day
See photo credit MilitaryAvenue PinterestThis Memorial Day is going to be different for us. We have many family members who have served and some who are currently serving. From World War II to present day Afghanistan with stops in Korea, Vietnam, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. We even have a grandson currently in basic training at Ft Leonard Wood who will do his service time as well. Praying that he will never see combat! But this Memorial Day there is a big hole in my heart where two WW II veteran brothers used to hang out and remind us of the many sacrifices they shared. These two men passed away…

Requesting an Honor Guard for a Veteran’s Funeral Service
A final saluteThis past weekend was a tough one for our family as we honored our father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend during a memorial service. James M. Kissinger was a World War 2 veteran who served honorably with the 685th Engineer Base Equipment Company in the European Theater of Operations as his discharge papers comment. We wanted his Army service, which he was so proud of to be recognized during the time of the memorial service. 10 Years Down the Road
Travel came to the forefront 10 years ago. Hubs traveled home from an around the world hop and stop flight with different crews, different planes and at that time a different mission. As a child, I remember watching TV nonstop when JFK was assassinated. The very word was mesmerizing. TV anchormen were somber, music played all the time. …

Closure
Closure, “A feeling of finality or resolution, especially after a traumatic experience.” I don’t know about you but I’m not necessarily feeling much closure even with Osama Bin Laden’s death. Don’t get me wrong, his death is a victory. His death is a step that needed to happen. His death is a step in this war-on-terror. But is the war-on-terror closed? Are we safe? Is life back to the way it was before 9/11? I’m thinking not. We had a family vacation this past week to Washington DC where we spent a bit of time touring the monuments and memorials around the city. I was still pretty freaked out every time I looked up to see an airplane…

Finding sunshine in an otherwise gloomy day
I had big plans for today. It is the second day of school for my school-age children and a regular child-care day for my preschooler. Since I have the pleasure of working from my home-office I can *truly* appreciate a quite house. I had lists made of things that needed to be accomplished. Phone calls to make. Emails to reply to. Site management opportunities to put at the top of my priorities. But before jumping into my ‘To Do list’ I took a few moments to read some personal emails that came in over night. One was from a family member. Their son has just been diagnosed with leukemia. My…
