An Introduction: “Do You Have a Frog in your Pocket?”

    August 26, 2014 /

Last week we published a blog in our Marketing to Military resource and the business owner was so military friendly we thought that we should share it today in our Military Family blog as well.  It is a smooth read but what she says about the military community says a lot about her business. We like what she said about us too!  So, read and enjoy!  PS:  If you know a military family owned, veteran owned or military friendly business share the blog with them too!  “Do You Have a Frog in your Pocket?” Something caught my eye, increased the focus, sped up the senses a bit, made me look…

Away for the Holidays – Care Package Ideas and More

    November 6, 2012 /

There are a few Christmases that stand out in my life. I remember our first Christmas in Iceland after being separated from my dad for six months while we waited for a house to open up at Keflavik NAS.  He had to report without his family but just before the holidays new friends opened up their home to us so that we could be together as a family.  Our house would be ready when they returned from a vacation back to the states.  That was the Christmas of Homecoming.  (Although a new home, but home none the less). Another very memorable Christmas for me was the year my husband was in…

A Military Family Memberwho is happy mom voted! It is Not Too Late to Vote!Military personnel and their families have a lot at stake when it comes to elections. You serve this great nation in a way that many citizens can not and do not. So why not get involved in this election? Too hard to do? Not true, according to Pamela Mitchell, Acting Director of Federal Voting Assistance Program. During a DoD Blogger Roundtable Ms Mitchell described some great social media, mass emails (12,000,000 – now that is quite the mailing list) to all .mil addresses, twitter town home meetings, live chat and call center and of course their website…

US Navy Health Promotion and Wellness – DoD Blogger Roundtable

    October 3, 2012 /

When we see images of our military community we see a young, vibrant and healthy group of Americans. But realistically our vision may be wrong. The Department of Defense spends $1 Billion per year on weight management, many still smoke and health and wellness are hot topics among the defense medical community and leaders. Talking health! See Below for Photo CreditYesterday Cmdr. Denise Gechas, Director of Population Health, Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center (NMCPHC) met with the Blogger Roundtable (BRT) to discuss the launch of the Navy’s health and wellness campaign. She was in Norfolk for the launch and the roundtable asked her about the campaign and she…

“Shoulder to Shoulder” Suicide Prevention Stand Down

    September 26, 2012 /

“… we should be standing “Shoulder to Shoulder” with our soldiers and their families on Thursday!”  A day to reflect, a day to plan for the future, a day to remember those lost, a day to consider that we are not immortal or invulnerable… I remember during my days as an airman taking “safety down days” after a particularly tragic series of flight accidents to do just that. To highlight behavior health during Suicide Prevention Month the US Army is taking a “Stand Down” tomorrow focusing on “… good health, teammate involvement, risk reduction and resilience training.” See Photo Credit BelowThe Blogger Roundtable had the opportunity to speak to Sergeant…

Why did NBC not Support America on 9/11?

    September 12, 2012 /

I usually do not write when I am angry but this was wrong.  Our nation was supporting the survivors of 9/11,  victims of 9/11, first responders and the military community that has fought for 11 years since the attacks in 2001.  This was not a political issue, it was a national issue and every media except the Today Show on NBC observed the moment of silence from the White House to Ground Zero New York and locations around the world.  What program director made that decision?  While it will not affect my choice of TV programs because I generally do not watch NBC, it left a real bad taste in…

On this 9/11 in 2012, It is Never too Late for our Veterans to seek Help!

    September 11, 2012 /

“…he did not get help for more than 3 decades – yep, 35+ years and then he felt like damaged goods.” Today is one we do not forget in the United States.  Our service men and women have been at war for 11 years since the terrorists struck at us on 9/11/2001.  We have lost so many of our service members following the initial terrorist attack during combat and way too many to Suicide. They survive the ravages of war but then the pain comes through … It hurts, they close up, feel isolated and do not seek help or the help is not enough. Their families feel it too……

Posthumous Silver Star to be presented to the family of U-2 Pilot, Captain Gary Francis Powers on Friday

    June 14, 2012 /

“Best Father’s Day Present Ever” Capt Gary Powers – See Below for photo creditsWhat does a Silver Star presentation have to do with Father’s Day? To the Power’s family, Friday is a correction to history, a heritage that can be reflected on with pride and a celebration of a father who was a Cold War hero. Air Force Chief of Staff General Norton Schwartz will present a posthumous decoration to the U-2 pilot who was shot down over the Soviet Union on May 1, 1960. On Wednesday, we spoke with Gary Powers, Jr about the upcoming ceremony and how it had impacted his family during a DoDLive Blogger Roundtable. The…
