“… Upholding the Traditions We Have in America”

    May 27, 2014 /

“The appreciation and kind thoughts will last much longer than the vegetables and my health will continue to be refreshed by all three!”   Row Markers Americans are famous worldwide for helping our neighbors out.  Find a tsunami, earthquake or a camp for the victims of war and you will usually find American personnel, supplies or donated equipment; sometimes all three.  We give through our churches, the Red Cross and many other non profits and our military forces are usually at the forefront of overseas efforts.  At home, neighbors and families can be seen doing the weekend projects that often end in refreshments or even a barbecue at this time of…

    December 10, 2012 /

Do not give away your hard earned military cash! You served. You or your soldier, airmen, marine, sailor or coastie served in a high threat environment to bring in the bacon and now an unethical business or person wants to take it from you. Have you ever been a victim of consumer fraud? Concerned about how to avoid becoming a victim? Many of our military community are vulnerable to consumer fraud, scams and contract issues due to their age, relocation to new and unfamiliar areas and their wide spread use of the internet according to Brenda Linnington, Director of the Better Business Bureau Military Line! On this 9/11 in 2012, It is Never too Late for our Veterans to seek Help!

    September 11, 2012 /

“…he did not get help for more than 3 decades – yep, 35+ years and then he felt like damaged goods.” Today is one we do not forget in the United States.  Our service men and women have been at war for 11 years since the terrorists struck at us on 9/11/2001.  We have lost so many of our service members following the initial terrorist attack during combat and way too many to Suicide. They survive the ravages of war but then the pain comes through … It hurts, they close up, feel isolated and do not seek help or the help is not enough. Their families feel it too……

The Sad Truth about the Recent Effort to Raise Tricare Fees

    July 30, 2012 /

“In fact, the medical budget saved $500M in 2011 and $708M in 2012 from what was budgeted!” Saying Goodbye! See Below for Photo CreditWe are a military family blog team! We care about the team – the military team! Yes, we write about their family needs, job search ideas, issues for veterans and post numerous articles about the military lifestyle and its unique challenges on MilitaryAvenue.com. Today I write as a member of that team with a bit of anger toward the military leadership that we normally so appreciate (I did let this sit for a while so I did not use any inappropriate language, etc). The Department of Defense…

The Blackberry Patch and Col K

    July 12, 2012 /

Our crop is going to be cut by 90% and this “farmer” is a bit sad watching them shrivel. 2011 Blackberry PatchThey are in the blood and sometimes they draw our blood through their thorns! Growing up outside of Gary, Indiana, we lived in farm country. It was a completely different world than our city cousins or the Air Force life I would eventually join. Ten acres of strawberries, black raspberries, vegetables and woods with a small pond kept us out of the house and busy in the spring/summer – whether working or playing, it did not matter. We were the “berry pickin” cousins and as we got older we…

Operation Purple Camp and your Military Child

    March 21, 2012 /

Flashlights, extra socks, money for the Canteen, shoes that can get dirty, a bar of soap (that may or may not ever get used), a sleeping bag… all the makings of great memories, new friends, growing older.  My nine-year old is registered for a week long summer camp.  His first time away for an entire week, away from home, away from family, away from /mom/.  (Emphasis made my mom herself) Can I tell you how excited he is?  He is pumped!Operation Purple Camp is accepting applications.  If you have a military-brat between ages 7 and 17 jump at this chance.  They are accepting applications from now through April 19th.  This is a great chance…

The Army Profession, Drawdown, Army Families and more! DoD Bloggers Roundtable

    February 23, 2012 /

Army children in youth program … see below for creditChandler said,  Secretary of the Army – no cuts to Army programs for families without his specific approval. Did you know that the US Army end strength (total number of active duty soldiers) under the Defense Departments current plan and budget will be at 490,000 after the drawdown is complete? That is the loss of eight brigade combat teams and other resources (80,000 soldiers to be specific).   The number of cuts seems to be a bit of a moving target as we talked just recently (December) with the DoD Blogger Roundtable and the number was 50,000!  The Sergeant Major of the…

NORAD is ready to track Santa’s flight

    December 1, 2011 /

This is so much fun!  Last year my boys and I pulled up NORAD’s site at www.noradsanta.org and watched Santa travel around the world on Christmas Eve.  It was so much fun talking to my boys about different cultures, different time zones, the way the earth spins, different parts of the world and the boys and girls that live all around us, all while watching Santa ZOOM from place to place. You can follow them on Facebook to keep up with the latest: http://www.facebook.com/noradsantaMake this part of your Christmas Tradition.  You won’t regret it: NORAD is ready to track Santa’s flight Dec. 1, 2011PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The North American…
