Routine does have it’s advantages especially with gas prices out the ceiling. Then the mail brings in high school open house invitations, wedding announcements, family reunion picnic plans. Most are from out of state, half are from out of time zone! But that desire to see Momma, hear Dad’s laughter, show off your youngsters and rest for a few moments being the child again at home sucks you in like a powerful vacuum cleaner! Time has this funny way of trimming connections. Stronger ties develop with others,…

The Ultimate Adventure Cruise! DoD Roundtable
Some TV programs and cruise line ads describe their programs and trips as the “ultimate” something or other. Today I talked with two senior officers who I think can claim the ultimate cruise: They visited 22 countries, 5 continents, saved lives, fought pirates, delivered relief supplies, rescued folks at sea, supported combat ops in Afghanistan and … I think you are getting the picture of what Captain Dale Fuller and Colonel Roy Osborn’s adventure looked like but they told us a lot more about their 7 months at sea commanding the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) respectively. But the thought process has traveled down that project list. We hold traditions to keep the family on track as to what the family does: traditions help define family values and heritage. Some of these traditions can be left by the wayside without hesitation. I grew up in a Norwegian household. Lutefisk was always there on the table, but not anymore! It was an incredible way to break up the monotony of the week for me (Is it really only Tuesday?) Hubs has been working late nights and of the last seven nights he has been home at the boys’ bedtime twice. I have a nursing baby. Plus both boys, E and C, have a pre-Thanksgiving project for school that is extending homework time. On top of it all, I haven’t been as good about getting dinner started early. To say last week was exhausting is an understatement and yesterday just capped…
