How to Paint Your World Yellow Plan, Plant, Play! Plan: Picture a garden. Let the flow of colors move with the seasons! Continue Reading for Gardening Tips Spring seems to inspire the love of yellow… stronger and longer sunshine. New leaf green definitely has the yellow tone. Hallelujah for the emergence of tulip and daffodil bulbs and then forsythia. Plant: Place daffodil bulbs in clumps, not spread out individually. They grow and love the friendship of kissing cousin bulbs… They will pop though your garden turf and each year bring on new family members. Trim bushes after flowers have faded. The goal is to get the bush compact and not…

Military Saves Week: Ideas from our Community of Military Families and Friends
I enjoyed the tips that we got from Facebook Fans and MilitaryAvenue Partners and wanted to share them with you, our blogging community: Again, a big ‘Congrats’ to the winner in our “Penny Saved. Penny Earned.” Contest was Roxie. Her savings idea was: “Pack healthy snacks and drinks for the little ones in reusable containers and bpa free drink bottles. There’s nothing like hungry kids in the car to make you spend a lot of money for unhealthy, greasy drive-thru fast food out of desperation! Good for the environment, good for your kids, good for your wallet.:-)” … and here are some more great ideas … Master Craft Carpet and…

Plant Your Easter Bulbs
As I write this the temperature has climbed up into the 50’s. LOVE it. Last week we were into the minus degrees. Change comes and it goes, but the calendar marks the real changes that are coming: Spring and sunshine. Ahhhhhhh! There is a tangible change that you can experience right now. An ugly bag with a hairy bulb looks like it will be anything but beautiful. And change is so hard to see. Because the Easter amaryllis will take about 6 weeks to bloom get it ready to pot now. Placethat bulb in a fresh pot, with soft potting soil, drab as it seems, and as far away from…

Daffodil therapy
Daffodils. Great name for a flower I think. Something daffy is well, happy, a childhood memory made tangible and moments without pressure: pure frivolity. Prior to when Dale retired from the USAF, I went into a panic mode. What in the weeda world (a Norwegian expression from my fabulous grandmother) were we going to be doing? Good night, he would be home all the time. A life time of crew rest. OH MY!!My Mom was a great gardener. She could take a clump of dirt and transform it into a living breathing eye-grabbing spectacle. I thought the gardens were just for show… now I know differently.Bring on the daffodils. The…

Older and Wiser … well at least Older
35 years ago today I entered the world. I made a “Husband & Wife” a “Mom & Dad”. The Lieutenant and Mrs lived on the edge of Death Valley aka Indian Springs Auxiliary Field… now referred to as Creech AFB. As I understand it (since I hardly remember) it was quite the drive but I was born at Nellis AFB, just outside of Las Vegas, the closest hospital. 35 years later, many many moves and two special-deliveries of my own I can sit here amazed at where my life has taken me. So with a little reflection and without further adieu… 35 ‘Deep Thoughts’ to celebrate my 35 years Get…

Spring Bunny Rolls
Spring is finally here. It is outside – the proof is tulips poking out, daffodil spiking up, hyacinths branching out. Color will soon be where decaying oak leaves blanketed the bulbs. So, watch out! Those pesky rabbits will be chomping on the leaves and blossoms as they appear. I say turn about is fair play… chomp on the rabbit. Not being a hunter… I vote for bunny rolls. Yeasty rabbit rolls served piping hot with cold sweet butter. Nice 3/4 c milk1/2 c shortening1/2 c sugar1 t salt2 pkgs. active dry yeast1/2 c warm water (110 to 115 degrees)4 1/4 to 4 3/4 bread flour2 eggs Scald milk in microwave –…

Posting Old Pictures
I love pictures. I love capturing memories, tagging moments and displaying the love of friends and family. Photos do that. I started young with a brownie camera. Saved my allowances to pay for flash bulbs, flash cubes and finally a new camera that had a built in flash attachment. Wonders would never cease. Then, I saw the big screen and fell in love with slides, and movies. We moved around a dish pack box full of boxes of slides trays. Setting up each house had to have a good spot to enjoy the pull down screen which we used when we would pull out the projector for our movie/slide show.…

A Minute out of the Norm: Go For a Walk
Today is a much coveted day in March in the Midwest. It is mostly sunny. Don’t get me wrong. It’s cold. There are still snow-piles throughout the neighborhood from the last snowstorm… but hey, at least we have our sidewalks back! The boys and I were inside feeling rather gloomy. There was a little bit more arguing then usual between the two brothers, a little bit more yelling on my part. So this afternoon for a change of pace we put on our jackets and shoes. My boys grabbed their new rain-boots from the Easter Bunny and we headed outdoors for a walk. I walked and they scooted on their…

Brace yourself Mom… It’s Science Fair time!
Science Fair: Those words were the scariest words spoken by the children at the supper table. A hush fell over the room. Dale would mysteriously get a phone call to send him into the other room. Appetites were quashed. Those words work better than Slim Fast! Lamely I would say, “Oh, this is going to be fun.” No one bought it. I was talking to some Moms who are facing the science fair time of year, as if taxes aren’t enough… but at least with tax time, there is tax help for free on Base. However, with science fair you are on your own. The project has to be interesting,…
