Tasty Tuesday: Pesto Cheesecake
After working in the garden on a perfectly ‘perfect weather’ day, the deck chairs seems to summon us, and the idea of a simple dinner with the neighbors is about as good as it gets. IN preparation for this event… this pesto cheesecake can be made from ordinary items in the back of the refrigerator. I tend to do a commissary shopping trip and load up on essentials…so having 4 packages of cream cheese on hand is not unusual. Understand we do not live close to a commissary, so when I go… I go for carts! I hope you have the occasion to sit outside, enjoy your work and enjoy…

Coping with stress
The other day my 1st grader got off the bus, dragged himself into the house, snagged a snack and sat down for homework. All routine. Except for the awful look of frustration on his face. After inquiring what was wrong I was informed that the bus-driver was a sub that afternoon and she was MEAN. Grumble, Grumble, back to homework. Couple minutes later I look back and there were tears streaming down his face. More questions and he is still very-focused on that mean bus-driver, clearly homework was not in the forefront of his mind. Found out the kids weren’t aloud to talk /at all/ on the bus and that seemed to…

Cream Cheese Coffee Cake
It is time for leisurely breakfasts, family gatherings and a sweet tooth to be satisfied at sunrise. Our sunrise here in Michigan is bright and white with silver and gold accents. The landscape is snow covered. The tree branches are white lined: winter! The railings are even decorated with brilliant red male and female cardinals flitting in; black and white junco; green/brown siskins; and boisterous blue jays. Now, as we sit and watch all of this move across the deck and sky… a hot cup of coffee and apiece of warm cinnamon scented coffee cake fit the bill! Fruit Basket Upset
Childhood games were the best: interaction, laughter and goofiness reigned in my ‘organized fun time’. Fruit Basket Upset required at least 10 friends, names of fruits: each child picked a fruit type. Then, with one less chair we waited for the ‘it’ to call out two or three fruits – at that time up we would jump and change chairs before ‘it’ could take our spot. Perfect name and game for this time of year. Soon the Thanksgiving fruit bowl will be assembled: pineapple, pears, apples, grapes, bananas, oranges and tangerines. The table will be arranged… and usually there is one less ‘good’ chair than I would like. (NEVER too…

We are still crunching on Honey Crisps, Galas and a few Ida Reds. Yes, this apple season was a good one. I brought home a peck of Spies (for pies) and I see some are getting a bit ready to be used. Once in a blue moon …
I think my kids had to pick themselves up off the floor last night … I baked. It happens, oh once in a blue moon, and almost all my baking involves a box. Cake from a box, muffins from a box… add the egg and the oil and wa-la you are done. Last night actually involved a recipe 🙂 We had fun. The boys each took turns adding the ingredients to the mixing bowl. They took turns whisking, there was not one fight involved. It was beautiful! (My only complaint was the clean-up … but you can’t win them all.) I did have to do a little research in order to…
