Universities that Support our Veterans
I read a recent article about two universities that ‘get it’. Rutgers University and the University of Arizona; The Lumina Foundation highlighted them in their recent magazine, you can read more here: Lumina Foundation Features Two Colleges for Their Work Serving Student Veterans; America Needs More Vets with Degrees to Meet Attainment Needs Just think, only three years ago Rutgers didn’t have any type of Veterans Program and now they are receiving national recognition. It goes to show you don’t have to jump through hoops to make it happen you just need to make a plan and stick to it! I love support like this for our Veterans and I certainly…

3 Must Take Avenues for the the Entrepreneurial Military Spouse
I had the wonderful opportunity to share my thoughts on Military Spouse Entrepreneurship over at USAA’s Spouse Community. Image Source: Army.mil “As an entrepreneurial military spouse you have three avenues that you must take to help build your business clientele. Part of your journey you will have a small ‘toll’ to pay a charge to get from your starting point to your final destination. Some of your road-trip will be on the ‘free-way’; there is no charge except for your time. Part of your journey is pure open country road, taking the time to get to know the passengers, otherwise known as your new clients. All three roads are a…

Redux! Happy Military Spouse Day! Let’s Talk Jobs for Spouses > DoD Blogger Roundtable
During the Happy Military Spouse Day! Let’s Talk Jobs for Spouses > DoD Blogger Roundtable they told us that 36 states had passed legislation to assist military spouses with the transportability of their licenses or credentials between states which is absolutely fantastic. I had asked which states had NOT passed legislation so we could highlight which states needed to take action > to walk the talk of support to the military community. You can look up your governor or legislator and send them a note in support of legislation to assist military spouses with this critical issue. Chief of the DoD State liaison office, Max Beauregard”As stated during the…

Happy Military Spouse Day! Let’s Talk Jobs for Spouses > DoD Blogger Roundtable
Do you remember… What a great day! Celebrating the contributions of military spouses to their families, services and country! A special shout out to my favorite military spouses > MilAve_Deborah and MilAve_Leanne. Immense contributions at that but I digress from the purpose of this blog which is to announce how much progress can be said for military spouse employment and provide “How To” tools to help! When the DoD Blogger Roundtable met yesterday afternoon there was no big announcements, no laudatory pats on the back, just continued improvement of tools that military spouses can use to find gainful employment or continued success in their choice of careers. The top item…

The “Macho Spouse” at USAA Blogger Conference
Jeremy Hilton, 2012 Military Spouse of the Yearsee belowWho is the military spouse? We know many of the demographics – they are young, try to maintain a career, mostly female but as the number of female military members trend upwards, the number of male spouses does as well. Most have faced numerous deployments in the last 10 years and many have children. They are often engaged in social media like Facebook, twitter and blogging as well. When MilitaryAvenue was invited to a blogger gathering in San Antonio, with banking/insurance/investment giant USAA.com for their 3rd Annual Influencer Conference (See “Two Very Different Veteran Day Celebrations“) it sounded like an opportunity to…

In addition, this was a great follow on to the blog we posted in August: Are You Ready for the Army Reserve? Or, Is Your Soldier Ready for the Army Reserve? Army Reserve Capabilities – See Below for Photo CreditsFirst off the start line: What does the Army Reserve bring to the fight? Twenty…

Spouse employment! Veteran employment! DoD Blogger Roundtable!
I have to admit being a bit behind. I should have written this last week but a little bit of taking on too much, my mind on personal issues, the political season and of course, writer’s block just all combined to make the blog a bit behind schedule. Why too busy? More work than one person can do led to priorities. Why the political season? I guess I am concerned that veteran and spouse issues might be used as a political wedge during a tough presidential campaign. Sensitive to the lead guy in the military (the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff) criticizing retired, separated veterans for their activist…
