    Finances and the Heart

    January 20, 2013 /

We all have demons in our lives.  I mean in the real sense, not the scary fictional movie kind.  Some of Satan’s army nips at our friendships, mauls at our self-worth, whisper about our inabilities.  Some challenge things that we know, claw at our most trusted relationships, sneer at our self-esteem.  When it comes to tearing a man down we don’t do it all on our own! This all was running through my mind this morning as we sat in church.  The sermon was on money, trust, priorities.  Let me tell you about this demon in my life. He scratches at my happiness, bites (with big gruesome teeth) at my marriage, makes…

Is Working from Home Your Cup of Tea in 2013?

    January 3, 2013 /

Considering a work from home job? Could It Help You Find Military Financial Success?  Want to be a military family entrepreneur?  Or is a military transition staring at you and you are considering the work from home idea? It sounds good but is it good for your “Military Wallet”? Reduced commute time, savings on gas, flexible hours and more family time are some of the benefits listed by Ryan Guina, creator of Cash Money Life and The Military Wallet blogs. I met Ryan at the USAA Blogger Conference in November and shared lunch and a wait in the San Antonio airport with him too. Discussion turned to times of Air…

The Home Depot Celebration of Service 2012 – Meet a military family.

    December 12, 2012 /

The Home Depot Celebration of Service 2012 – Meet the Purvis family! I had the pleasure of meeting the Purvis family in GrandRapids, Michigan last week, as a part of The Home Depot Celebration of Service 2012.  The Home Depot provided them (that we delivered) with decorations, a corner Christmas tree, and an opportunity to meet a wonderful family.  Throughout my time with the family we shared plenty of laughs and a few serious and emotional topics. Mr. Purvis has been in the Army National Guard forabout 11 years.  He has been deployed 3 times,to Egypt, Iraq and Afghanistan.  The family’s living room wall is covered in pictures and memories…

Do not give away your hard earned military cash! You served. You or your soldier, airmen, marine, sailor or coastie served in a high threat environment to bring in the bacon and now an unethical business or person wants to take it from you. The “Macho Spouse” at USAA Blogger Conference

    December 5, 2012 /

Jeremy Hilton, 2012 Military Spouse of the Yearsee belowWho is the military spouse? We know many of the demographics – they are young, try to maintain a career, mostly female but as the number of female military members trend upwards, the number of male spouses does as well.  Most have faced numerous deployments in the last 10 years and many have children. They are often engaged in social media like Facebook, twitter and blogging as well. When MilitaryAvenue was invited to a blogger gathering in San Antonio, with banking/insurance/investment giant USAA.com for their 3rd Annual Influencer Conference (See “Two Very Different Veteran Day Celebrations“) it sounded like an opportunity to…

    Help for your PCS Finances!

    May 31, 2012 /

PCS Post at MilAve_Col_K DrivewayIt is summer PCS season and one third of our military is relocating to a new fun spot in the sun! With a PCS many obligations and military requirements come at a new unit plus a completely new area for some to explore. But first, we have to get there … quite the challenge for many, routine for others, occasionally heart wrenching for military brats, saying good bye to friends, planning to travel, find a new home … screech on chalkboard for our budget sometimes. Need help to work through the finances of a PCS? During an interview with a well known and respected leader in…

A Military Spouse Who Cares about the Finances of Military Families – Why She Recommends the FINRA Internship

    March 9, 2012 /

“God wanted me to help people” MilitaryAvenue’s team frequently gets to meet, talk to and get to know some wonderful military members, family members and supporters. This morning we met a passionate military spouse who has served members of the Air Force, Army and Coast Guard during her military travels and career! Mitchia (Shay) D. Tull-Cook talked to me this morning about her experiences after she was accepted into the FINRA financial internship program for military spouses! Shay was truly passionate about the need to support the troops with financial assistance. She said that young folks across the board during wartime needed help. Maintaining financial communication during long deployments is…
