Summer 2012 Bucket List
Summer Vacation is soon upon us. A time of year I LOVE! The lack of routine is so refreshing but amazingly enough becomes a little old after only a few weeks (and depending on the moment, sometimes only after a few days). So this summer my boys and I have created a ‘Bucket List’. Things we all want to do in the course of our lazy-days of summer. Somethings are things I want to do as a family. Some things are dreams. Others are already being planned. This is our list of plans, ideas and joys for the summer: Ride our Bike to Tasty Freeze Have a backyard game of kickball Catch fireflies…

A Reflection of my Own Stress
I was running a morning errand when I saw the car screaming in reverse down the driveway. I tapped my brakes not knowing if she saw me. She slammed on hers to avoid hitting me. I saw the 2nd grader in the back seat, her daughter. I could see the mom YELLING at her daughter. Hands were in motion, up in the air. Mom was flabbergasted over something. It was 8:05am and I knew that kids were considered tardy if they arrived after 8:10am and we live about 5 minutes from the school. It was easy to draw conclusions but I don’t know what was happening exactly in the car that followed…

I’m a Winner! Thanks to UbiRock
Isn’t it fun when you are notified that “You are a winner!”? I have to admit it doesn’t happen often. The first time I ever won something it was a windbreaker from a pet store – eons ago. The next thing I remember winning was a baby carrier (backpack style) from Babies R Us soon after my now 9 year old was born. We still have that backpack and it has been used for my other sons as well as my nieces and nephews. It is like the gift that keeps on giving! Just last week I got that ‘You are a winner’ announcement once again. Three days later in the…

You know you are a military-brat when…
April is Month of the Military Child and we have some fantastic give-aways lined up from businesses around the nation that support /you/ the military family. We will have one question for each week. Leave an answer as a comment on this blog and you are elgible to win. Our question of the week:“You know you are a military-brat when …”Source: Uploaded by user via MilitaryAvenue.com on PinterestLook at the military children around you, your own children, maybe even yourself (even at 38 years old I still am a Military-brat through and through). What makes them (or you) uniquely part of the military-community? I’ll go first: I know I am a military…

Coupon crazed
I recently had the pleasure of attending Army Wife Network‘s “Coupon Boot Camp Webinar”, supported in part by the Commissary Shopper. I have to admit while I was sitting through it, two days for a couple hours each day, I began to question what I was being taught compared to what I already knew. Pretty basic stuff. But it was an opportunity to educate myself and I took it all in, reaffirming mostly and taking in a few bits and pieces as well. (As an example, I had no idea you could use a manufacturer coupon and a BJ’s coupon on the same item … two coupons for one item; TOO cool!) But then yesterday…

Tragedy in Chardon – Talking about Emergency Preparedness with Children
Sunday night we were at the kitchen counter and my boys said something to the effect “I wish we could blow up the school.” I stopped. It was typical school-age conversation. If there’s no school they can stay home and play all day right? This was their logic. I was immediately taken to Columbine, Jonesboro, even Virginia Tech. What came out of my mouth was a stern but caring “We don’t joke about that.” Kind of like you don’t joke about firearms and terrorist activities standing in line at the airport, you don’t joke about guns, bombs or other activities of that nature in relation to school. It’s not funny.…

Soldiering On…
Last night I fell into bed. Sometimes my mind has time to wander after I turn off the lights. I think about what I did earlier in the day, what I accomplished, what I forgot to do, what I can get done tomorrow. I think about my blessings. Thank God for my family. Dream about what our future holds. It can all be a pleasant way to drift into dream world. But last night there was none of that. It was a hectic day that involved making 30 Valentines Cookies for my 3rd grader’s class, which in and of itself involved multiple (yes, multiple) trips to the grocery store. It was laundry and sheet…

Chicken Breast in a Puff of Pastry
Pure deliciousness emanated out of my kitchen Saturday night. It smelled of pastry and cheese and a hint of bacon. It sounded like “mmmmm”, “This is good” and even “Can I have some more, please”. Cleaning your glass-range & inside your microwave (no elbow grease required)
…Don’t Judge…I have to admit. I do not enjoy cleaning. I LOVE a clean house… but the actual process of cleaning?! BLECK!
