10 Tips for a Healthy Marriage … on Facebook

    February 14, 2011 /

A Very Happy Valentine’s Day to our military-families! I will honestly tell you hubs and I have no plans. I am a little sad about it but not terribly over-worked. It is hard with a young family to get out in the middle of the week as a couple. We certainly find time to ‘date’ each other but this Valentine’s Day does not entail a dinner out, fine dining and dancing. I am thinking it will involve a homemade pie, chocolate, wine, and most hopefully some candles, backrubs, lights down low … and a sleeping six-month old.. There is more to a healthy-marriage though then time alone. What about time…

Getting Ready to Say “See you soon”

    January 1, 2011 /

Goodbye … Love You … I’ll miss you … See you soon! All words I will be uttering tomorrow morning. Hubs is off to Virginia for some military training. Two weeks. It isn’t the end of the world. We’ve done a year; two weeks is nothing. I remember my dad leaving for months at a time for training, two weeks is just a drop in the bucket. But it is two weeks of being a ‘Sometimes Single Mom’. Two weeks of missing my right-hand-man. Two weeks of good-night via AIM or phone. Just about enough time to get in the swing of things and then to have him back! Ironically,…

    MY Deployment Story

    January 26, 2010 /

Forewarning:  I know I have some MOPS friends that read the blog.  THANK YOU!  But if you haven’t been to your MOPS meeting yet I kind of spell out my ‘talk’.  You might not want to read this if you don’t want to see it all spelled out before hand 🙂  (Our church is fortunate to have three chapters of MOPS … I spoke for the first chapter and have two more to go.) I DID IT!  I was nervous … I worked over the course of the weekend (with some help from my mom, a retired Air Force wife) to get the words right … I got up a…

    Mid Morning Healthy Fruit Snack

    July 7, 2009 /

It is funny how I regard time. It is in sections. Sections of a lifetime: childhood, teenager, college student, newly wed, etc. Then there is the where we lived time: first year of marriage (3 installations), then Nevada (ISAFAF), Panama (Howard AFB) and so on. Smaller segments and daily time measurements can revolve around something good to eat! I do love a good snack. And since loosing a lot of weight, I recognize the importance of eating less… but more often. So, for Dale and I, the 10:00 snack and the 2:00 snack are gems of the day! We love fruit! It is the season for fresh items. Today we…

    Love and Marriage

    June 16, 2009 /

I am 100% in love. Hubs and I aren’t your ‘perfect’ couple. I get frustrated with him when he leaves the Sunday paper strewn across the kitchen counter. He would really prefer I DIDN’T leave my shoes all over the house. I’m sure any psychologist could pick our relationship apart. We have squabbles. YET, We don’t kick. We don’t scream. We just get past it and work through it. We love each other 100%, unabashedly. Our toughest ‘years’ of marriage were probably the first couple. We were in love but not quite synced. I did a lot more yelling and fussing then I needed to. He didn’t voice his opinions…

Free Laptops for our Military Families

    April 6, 2009 /

Technology … it has helped me survive this deployment! When Hubby is not on “the road” and has his normal routine on base in the sand-box we regularly IM and chat via our web-cameras. There is just something about that ‘good-night kiss’, that “How was your day, honey?” conversation that ends my day on a very positive note! Hubby gets up extra early and I stay awake a little past my normal bedtime so that we can have face-to-face time together. Alternatively, I can tell when Hubby is travelling because… well, he’s not on the other end of my computer come 11pm. That next day I am a little more…

Older and Wiser … well at least Older

    March 31, 2009 /

35 years ago today I entered the world. I made a “Husband & Wife” a “Mom & Dad”. The Lieutenant and Mrs lived on the edge of Death Valley aka Indian Springs Auxiliary Field… now referred to as Creech AFB. As I understand it (since I hardly remember) it was quite the drive but I was born at Nellis AFB, just outside of Las Vegas, the closest hospital. 35 years later, many many moves and two special-deliveries of my own I can sit here amazed at where my life has taken me. So with a little reflection and without further adieu… 35 ‘Deep Thoughts’ to celebrate my 35 years Get…

A Minute out of the Norm: Plant Some Seeds

    April 3, 2008 /

It is still pretty cold here in the Midwest, the danger of frost certainly has not passed. In fact, I wouldn’t be totally surprised if we got more snow (aghast) between now and the end of the month. However, my boys and I have started our summer garden. Before I dive into the topic of our garden I have to share a ‘funny’ story about miscommunication. My husband was going birthday shopping with the boys last Saturday for me. I asked him while he was out to please pick out some seeds for our annual vegetable-garden. He won’t be around this year for our vegetable & herb garden so I…
