    Our National Anthem

    February 7, 2011 /

Here are two of my favorite versions of the National Anthem by a major recording artist in case we want to remember how it /should be/ done. I especially enjoy the first one, with Whitney Houston, and the tie to the military in the short video: And really I can’t skip this one (even blogged about it earlier, Patriotism and My Community): Ironically, I missed where and how Christina Aguilera messed up last night’s National Anthem for the Super Bowl. The TV was on, she started singing, and my kindergartner said “Why are they singing?” My husband had arrived home minutes before hand, coming in from the field, dressed in…

The “Can Do” Seabees in Afghanistan – DoD Roundtable

    February 11, 2010 /

The Afghanistan surge approved by the President includes two additional Navy Seabee Construction Battalions as part of the 30,000 additional military personnel bound for that war zone. Rear Adm. Handley, Commander of the First Naval Construction Division provided some great background and answered the questions of the bloggers present at the DoD Bloggers Roundtable this morning. The Admiral said one new battalion of Navy Seabees just arrived in Afghanistan and a second will arrive in March bringing the force up to four battalions in country. He emphasized the importance of their role in building infrastructure and adjustments to deployment schedules to meet the increased demand for the Seabees’ construction capabilities.…

Thank You to Our Wonderful Veterans on Veteran’s Day

    November 10, 2008 /

I wanted to say thank you on Veterans Day but I initially hesitated as a member of the group. Sometimes its hard to say thank you when it involves what some could see as self praise. But this group of patriotic Americans is so diverse I decided I needed to step up and say a loud and clear: Thank You for your sacrifices, your patriotism and your willingness to protect others! This group starts with the World War II veterans and continues to current service personnel engaged in a global war on terrorism. Among the WW II vets is my dad who will visit us this next week and stay…

A is for April… every Military Child gets an A too!

    April 2, 2008 /

April is just jammed packed with action. It is after all the month of the Military Child: right there my mind is racing through pictures of friends, their babies, my babies… and my babies’ babies. Whoa… better stop. They all relate to those military children: Hear the roar of their excitement, patriotism, experience and networking friends. See the shy sheepish look as they once again enter a new school building. But don’t forget the warmth of their smiles! Catch that glimpse of a sparkle in their eye when they realize the new…
