Memorial Day Parade 2010 a Middleville Moment
I could not be prouder! I love my country! I love my little town! I LOVE my family. Memorial Day brought the best of the best together and our celebration taught this patriot lady a new lesson on smiling. It’s a good thing to do. It is even better to look around and see others smiling and bursting with pride.I love that we commemorate and recognize the dedication, camaraderie and sacrifice of our God protected military. Many were not allowed to see the end of conflicts, many were not brought home, that does not mean they were and are not protected. In God We Trust hangs on our hearts. The…

A Quick Repair Job, Great Service Attitude and Family Times
We have a quad ATV that we enjoy for family times–giving rides and pulling things around the woods on occasion as well. A couple of weeks ago a tree got in the way of one rider and the rear axle was bent just enough to make it wobble. So we decided to replace it. It is a saga of fun, frustration at times, a great group of service personnel and a great father/son time on a Saturday morning. We found the new axle but could not find the repair manual for it. When you buy something used there are usually no books that come with it and we looked online…

Posting Old Pictures
I love pictures. I love capturing memories, tagging moments and displaying the love of friends and family. Photos do that. I started young with a brownie camera. Saved my allowances to pay for flash bulbs, flash cubes and finally a new camera that had a built in flash attachment. Wonders would never cease. Then, I saw the big screen and fell in love with slides, and movies. We moved around a dish pack box full of boxes of slides trays. Setting up each house had to have a good spot to enjoy the pull down screen which we used when we would pull out the projector for our movie/slide show.…

Freedoms on this Memorial Day
It is Memorial Day! I got up at the “crack of dawn”… (ok, it was 7:30am but I am a night owl) so that I could get breakfast going, get the troops dressed, and head down to the local Memorial Day parade which started at 9am. The boys brought their bags to grab the candy. I brought my camera to grab the photos. It hasn’t been a very well attended parade in the past (or today for that matter) but those of us that are there are excited to be there. The boys enjoy the upfront view of the high school marching band, the larger then life fire-trucks and the…

A New Way to Connect
I haven’t contributed to the “Letters to You” blog before today, but I’m excited to do so! I joined the MilitaryAvenue team in early 2008 and it has been fun to jump into a new and exciting project. If you are reading this blog, you are probably familiar enough with the Internet to have at least heard of Facebook. It has gained some popularity and success over the past couple of years – roughly 65 million users with an average of 250,000 new users signing up each day! That’s exciting for the people at Facebook, but what did it mean for us at MilitaryAvenue? In mid 2007, Facebook created the…

Got worms?
Got worms? YUCK! I like them in the garden… but not in the computer. I was at my neighbor’s house when she used an online virus detector to see if her ‘sort of safe’ computer was living up to speed. Now, calling it sort of safe made me wonder right there… She googled “free online virus detector” and choose www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner. As it ran through her drives and files, horror crossed her face… there it was, virus after virus with corrupted files. Now what? This site offered a sure fire fixer upper… but Rose decided it was too late for that. She used the site just to see if there was…

How do you keep in touch?
I’m a huge fan of flickr.com. With two young sons and a teenager in our house life is constantly on the move. Their doting grandparents are hundreds of miles away. Their fun-loving aunts and uncles are no where close to us. Then there are my friends spread out all over the world from my military-brat days who love to keep in touch. So I take pictures as often as I can think of it; upload them on flickr & others can view my family’s candid photo shoots at their leisure. My mom feels like she was here as she browses through pictures of her grandchildren. Friends feel like they know…
