    Thankful Thursday: Sunshine

This morning as I stood sipping coffee and folding laundry (not my favorite thing to be doing first thing in the morning … the laundry part) with my back to the kitchen glass-door I felt this warmth growing all around me.  It started on the back of my neck, worked it’s way around to my shoulders, found the center of my back and then the legs of my jeans, finally it settled in to my very core.It was the sun, STREAMING through my window.  A sign of warmer days to come.  A sign of winter winding down.  A sign that SOON I will be able to throw open the back door and…

Finding sunshine in an otherwise gloomy day

I had big plans for today. It is the second day of school for my school-age children and a regular child-care day for my preschooler. Since I have the pleasure of working from my home-office I can *truly* appreciate a quite house. I had lists made of things that needed to be accomplished. Phone calls to make. Emails to reply to. Site management opportunities to put at the top of my priorities. But before jumping into my ‘To Do list’ I took a few moments to read some personal emails that came in over night. One was from a family member. Their son has just been diagnosed with leukemia. My…

    Spring is in the Air

What is the bright orange-orb in the eastern skies this morning? Does it for tell a spring-like day ahead of us? My bones begin to warm at even the thought of winter turning to spring. I sent my kindergartner to school today just *knowing* he will have outdoor recess. (They stick to indoor recess in the gym when the weather is below freezing.) I love to imagine the sights and sounds of the playground around noon today. I’m sure it will sound quite heavenly as they run out the door straight to the playground soaking up the ‘warmer’ weather. My preschooler and I will get out today and sweep off…

    S’more Simple Pleasures

Give a 5 year old, or a 50 year old a stick, a place in front of an outdoor fireplace, unlimited marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers. Ahhhhhhh life, it is good! We live in the country. We clear land, burn wood, cut thin branches and eat s’mores! My daughter lives in suburbia. They buy wood, fire up the deck fire pit, and use coat hangers for the ‘roasting’, and eat s’mores. Simple pleasures. Life long memories. Instant road back to childhood. Instant road to ‘maturity’ – holding something so close to the fire. (With permission!) One roasted marshmallow can cover a square foot of skin in less than it takes…

    New Beginnings

Hubby is home today. I can tell things are winding down for him. It’s been forever since he got up and put on jeans as opposed to a suit. He is self-employed so he is having to “close up shop” while he is deployed. Yesterday was hard for me for some reason; but today I’m feeling pretty good. Nothing like an emotional roller coaster! I woke up yesterday weepy, realizing that his ‘going away party’ is this weekend. (I’ll have to devout a whole blog-entry to his party preparations later.) Feeling weepy & fighting a cold I headed off to MOPS with my two boys regardless. We have ‘two chapters’…
